Active Kids Grant opens to support grassroots sport
February 27, 2026
Grassroots sports clubs across Australia can now apply for the next round of the Active Kids Grant, with sporting equipment and uniforms available to help young Australians get involved, stay active and feel part of their local sporting community.
Delivered by the Australian Sports Foundation (ASF) in partnership with The Dickinson Foundation, the Active Kids Grant supports volunteer-run, community sporting organisations with the practical gear they need to reduce cost barriers and grow junior participation.
Supporting participation where it matters most
Community sport plays a vital role in supporting the physical health, mental wellbeing and social connection of the next generation. However, rising costs mean many clubs are finding it harder to provide affordable and inclusive opportunities for young people.
The Active Kids Grant is designed to help address these challenges by funding essential uniforms and equipment for clubs supporting young people aged 20 and under. By removing some of the financial pressure, clubs can focus on what matters most – creating safe, welcoming environments where kids can participate, belong and thrive.
ASF Interim Chief Executive Officer Ryan Holloway said the program responds directly to the real needs of grassroots sport.
"Grassroots clubs are where participation begins, but many face increasing costs that make it harder to deliver inclusive sporting opportunities,” Mr Holloway said.
“The Active Kids Grant helps clubs access the equipment they need to get kids involved, keep them active and support positive physical, mental and social health outcomes through sport.”

Powered by philanthropy
The Active Kids Grant is made possible through the ongoing generosity of The Dickinson Foundation, whose support has enabled the program to deliver more than $5 million in uniforms and equipment since 2019, reaching 931 community clubs nationwide and supporting more than 153,000 young people stay in sport.
David Dickinson, Founder and Director of The Dickinson Foundation said the foundation is committed to strengthening community sport and increasing participation.
“We are proud to support grassroots clubs through the Active Kids Grant, particularly those working to remove barriers to participation,” David said.
“By investing in equipment and uniforms, our program helps clubs to create inclusive, community-led sporting opportunities that support health, connection and long-term
engagement in sport.”
Since launching in 2019, the Active Kids Grant has supported clubs across 47 sports, funding initiatives that encourage participation, inclusion and community connection in metropolitan, regional and remote areas.
Giving to sport, beyond the grant
While the Active Kids Grant plays an important role in supporting community sport, ongoing giving remains critical to the sustainability of grassroots clubs.
Through the Australian Sports Foundation, individuals and organisations can make tax-deductible donations to support the sporting clubs and programs they care about. These donations help clubs invest in participation, inclusion and long-term growth – ensuring sport remains accessible for the next generation.
“Giving to sport is one of the most direct ways to support participation and wellbeing in communities,” Mr Holloway said.
“Tax-deductible donations through the ASF help ensure local clubs can continue providing opportunities for young people to be active and connected through sport.”
