Charitable Status for Community Sport: A Game-Changer for Sports Funding
Charitable Status for Community Sport: A Game-Changer for Sports Funding
August 19, 2024
The Australian Sports Foundation (ASF) is spearheading a campaign to include 'Community Sport' as a charitable purpose under the Charities Act 2013. This update to the Act would enable community clubs to access new funding sources, increase the number of individual and corporate donors to sport and improve participation rates across the nation.
If successful, this change has the potential to:
- Unlock $103 million in philanthropic donations annually by 2030, significantly bolstering community sports funding.
- Attract 190,000 new participants to community sport across Australia by 2028.
Here's what Kieren Perkins, CEO of the Australian Sports Commission, has to say about the need for sport to have a voice in this consultation.
The ASF's proposal, currently in the consultation phase, seeks feedback from sports clubs, athletes, and the public until September 2024.
This initiative could attract over 190,000 new participants to community sports by 2028, ensuring the sustainability and growth of grassroots sports across Australia. Your input is crucial to shaping this transformative proposal.
