The Australian Sports Foundation (ASF) is proud to announce another record-breaking year for sport fundraising, with $118.8 million raised in the 2024–25 financial year, marking a 20% increase on the previous year and the highest total in ASF’s history.

The State of Sports Fundraising FY25 report reveals significant growth across community sport and athlete fundraising, as Australians continue to rally behind the clubs and athletes that keep sport thriving.

Despite the ongoing impact of rising costs and financial pressures on households, thousands of clubs, organisations and individuals turned to the ASF to raise funds for essential expenses such as equipment, uniforms, travel and facilities.

ASF Interim Chief Executive Officer, Ryan Holloway, said the results show how vital fundraising has become for the health and future of sport in Australia.

“Sport is thriving on the field but struggling off it. Participation costs are increasing, meaning many families are having to make tough decisions about whether their child can play. Australians are giving more often, even in smaller amounts, and it’s that generosity that is assisting in the sustainability of our clubs, backing our athletes and ensuring sport remains accessible.”

Among the highlights of FY25:

  • $40.3 million raised for community sport from more than 30,000 donations
  • The number of donations to athletes grew 36%
  • Over 3,700 campaigns successfully raised funds through the ASF, up 21% on FY24

Community sport remained the driving force behind this year’s growth, with clubs, associations and local organisations collectively raising more than ever before to keep participation strong.

Reflecting on the results, Mr Holloway said the 19% increase in athlete fundraising shows how Australians continue to back talent at every level of sport.

“While Paris 2024 inspired many donors, the growth in athlete fundraising tells a broader story. Australians are backing athletes at all levels of sport. With major events like the Winter Games in 2026 and Brisbane 2032 on the horizon, that grassroots support is what turns potential into performance on the world stage.”

The State of Sports Fundraising FY25 report also highlights standout campaigns and fundraisers across the country, showcasing how innovation, collaboration and community spirit are transforming the way Australians fund sport.
