    ABOUT Alex Woodhouse

My name is Alex Woodhouse. I am a QAS categorised sprint kayaker, international ocean ski racing medallist and volunteer surf lifesaver. Originally from Tasmania, I moved to the Sunshine Coast alone at 17 years old to pursue my dream of becoming a world-class paddle sports athlete and future Olympian in sprint kayaking.

Alongside full-time training, I work as a locksmith apprentice, balancing the demands of high-performance paddle sports and international competition while living on an apprentice wage.

I have recently been selected for the Australian Ocean Ski Racing Team to compete at the World Ocean Ski Championships this October in Spain at C.N. La Vila Joiosa. The event is the pinnacle of ocean ski racing, bringing together the world’s best athletes to compete in multiple races, including the prestigious 20km downwind championship event.

To prepare, I will complete a demanding 20-week training program focused on strength, endurance, speed and race-specific conditioning. My weekly schedule includes ocean ski and sprint kayak sessions, surf lifesaving training, gym-based strength and conditioning, cross training and recovery sessions.

Competing for Australia at World Championships has been a major goal of mine and an important step toward my long term ambitions in paddle sports. Raising funds through the Australian Sports Foundation will help cover travel expenses so I can proudly represent Australia on the world stage.
