    ABOUT Oceane Jeannerat

    Fremantle, WA

I first fell in love with the sport of rowing back in 2023. My school didn't provide any learn-to-row programs, so I joined FRC privately with no previous experience. I was coached by Liam Davis Snr, Jack Sherif, and later on in that season, Kevin Neville. All three remarkable coaches passionate about the sport. After attending four AllSchools regattas, I had miserably lost four quad races and three double races, securing the win on the final championship regatta for the year nine double alongside my twin sister Laetitia. Towards the end of my first season I came to realise the unmatched peacefulness of the early mornings and the sunrise, as the boat glides across the river. It sounds cringy but I still chase these trainings day by day.

Fast forward a year, I rowed at a club in Nyon, Switzerland for two weeks and I moved up to train with the seniors four mornings out of seven at FRC. Year ten was massively packed with early morning trainings and late night dance classes six times a week. Juggling the two sports at an intense level pushed me to my limits, having to compromised and make big decisions. It was however, a big improvement year where I learnt how to sweep in eights, make top three in a lot of races and also get coached by Alex Thompson. At the end of 2024 I closed the chapter to my Ballet journey, to focus more on rowing.

2025 was a big year in itself, consisting of many personal firsts, PBs, and consecutive wins, all being coached by David Vandas. In January, I learnt what Beach Sprints was through attending all three WA regattas. In March, was lucky enough to experience my first ever flat-water nationals, not meeting any standards with my times and numbers. But I thoroughly enjoyed the event, driving me to train harder for next nationals. By the start of the WA season, spirits were kind of low in the club, regardless I pushed myself hard in my single for three months while all my friends were training with their schools. In May, I attended my first AUS selections in NSW, learning a lot about the system and growing as a person from the experience. Throughout the rest of the winter season, I excelled in my single scull, refining my technique and understanding of the boat. In September, I raced at the Beach Sprint Nationals and came home with three gold medals and one bronze. Rowing Australia then invited me to represent Australia at the Commonwealth Rowing Association Championships in Barbados following my U19 national champion title. I accepted, and won the U19 women's single as well as the Open team relay.

Starting 2026, I am counting down the weeks until flat-water nationals, intending to race a pair with Olivia Hansen-Knarhoi and bring it to AUS selections.

I am so incredibly grateful for all these incredible opportunities, it definitely wouldn't have been possible without my amazing family, my very patient coach, my friends, and the FRC community as a whole.

Any support you can provide in helping me fund for expenses, is greatly appreciated. Your donations are tax-deductible!
